1. OLD ELORA PUBLIC SCHOOL
ELORA CENTRE FOR THE ARTS

This intriguing stone conglomerate was the home of several different schools over the past century and a half. The main storey of the most south-easterly section housed a girls school beginning in 1856. Ten years later, an addition on its north side was completed resulting in a boys classroom and two for girls. In 1871, under the supervision of new principal David Boyle, the classrooms were integrated and rising attendance led to a second storey being added to the original girls school. A large addition was built in 1874, again on the north side, when the high school (or grammar school as it was then called) was re-Iocated to this site. The last addition, the three storey section in the south-west corner, was completed in 1937.
